A BIT ABOUT ABBA
ABBA gained worldwide attention when they won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Waterloo’ which became a major hit including number 1 in the UK and Australia and number 6 in the USA. The Swedish group, comprising Agnetha Faltskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, went onto become one of the biggest pop groups in music history after a decade of consistent international chart success. The 90’s saw the Great ABBA Revival (with Björn Again being credited by ABBA themselves as initiating it) which included ABBA GOLD being released in 1992, which topped the charts everywhere and still sells well today; the release of the hit Australian films “Muriel’s Wedding” and “Priscilla Queen of the Desert”; and more recently the musical “Mamma Mia” which is playing in many cities worldwide and looks like becoming one of the most successful musicals of all time – all resulting in ABBA’s popularity being at an all time high.
